Packing Clothing Wrinkle-Free

The most effective method we have found to keep clothes virtually wrinkle-free is the Eagle Creek Pack It Folder . The principle behind the Pack It Folder is that by packing clothes without wrinkles and keeping them motionless during travel, they will arrive in the same condition in which they were packed.

  • Fold shirts around packing guide and stack shirts with collars at alternating ends.
  • Fold slacks in half, then in half again. Stack with waistbands at alternating ends.
  • Place packing guide on top.
  • Secure ends and sides with Velcro closures.

Folding A Suit Coat or Blazer

  • Turn one sleeve inside out
  • Push the right-side-out sleeve through the inside-out sleeve
  • Insert tissue paper to help the sleeve maintain its shape
  • Make sure the collar and lapels are facing each other and that they are smooth
  • Fold the arm across the center of the coat
  • Fold the coat in half
  • Secure it in a Pack It Folder or with tie-downs

Maximizing Space

A great way to save space and keep clothes neat is to roll them. Jeans, shorts, t-shirts, polo shirts--all work well with this method. Fold shirt sleeves in, then roll from the bottom up. Fold pants one leg on top of the other, then roll from the bottom up, stopping as you reach the pockets. Other rolled items can then be placed on top (see picture). The Eagle Creek Pack It Cube is a helpful way to store rolled up clothing, as well as socks, underwear, pajamas, swimwear, etc.

Packing a Garment Sleeve

Most wheeled upright cases include a built-in garment sleeve. This is an excellent place to put something that you just picked up from the cleaners or anything that is too complicated to fold.

  • Open the sleeve and lay it on a flat surface. Lay items in the sleeve making sure they are smooth. Leave on the plastic sleeve from the cleaners--it will reduce friction between garments which causes wrinkles.
  • Zip the sleeve, carefully fold it, place it in the case and secure.

Packing Shoes

  • Limit shoes to three pairs--two pairs in the suitcase and one on your feet.
  • Take one pair of dress shoes, one pair of flat casuals, and one pair of walking (or exercise) shoes. Wear the biggest pair to save room in your case.
  • Choose one neutral color for clothes and shoes so you can limit the amount you need.
  • Place socks, belts, and other small items in shoes. This will keep from wasting the empty space in the shoes and will help them hold their shape while packed.
  • Put shoes inside shoe covers or shoe bags to secure items inside and to keep your suitcase clean.

Packing a Toiletry Kit
  • Pack your toiletry kit while you are getting ready to leave for your trip After you use a toiletry item, place it in the kit to make sure you have everything.
  • Whenever possible, use sample-sized or travel-sized toiletries to save space.
  • A small flashlight is a handy item to keep in your toiletry kit. It is excellent if you find yourself in a dark, unfamiliar place, and you will always know where it is.
